POST FROM THE DEVIL ORDERS TAKEOUT

Epic Reads Tag

I made it a personal goal this year to include more readerly love on the blog, so I couldn't be more thrilled that Wild Horse of Opal Swirls tagged me for the Epic Reads Tag! Without further ado ...

1. If you could invite one author and one of their fictional characters to tea, who would you invite and what would you serve them?

I would invite GRRM and Sansa Stark, at which point I will extort the next two books out of the former and give all my love to the latter. I will serve lemon cakes to Sansa and my tears to GRRM.

2. What book do you wish the author would write the prequel for?

Hmm ... probably a Harry Potter Marauders era prequel.

3. Which two characters (NOT from the same book) do you think would make a good couple?

Tsukiko from The Night Circus and Legolas from LOTR. For some reason, I feel like Tsukiko has an almost supernatural grace, and Legolas might complement that well. (I would have chosen Galadriel instead, but she's married to Celeborn. So.)

4. If you ran into your favorite author on the subway and only could say one sentence to them who is it and what would it be?

But ... that means I have to decide on a favourite author. I can't. I can't. But it would be something along the lines of "please sign my copy of your book", because I am not particularly creative. However, if that author is particular brutal to my fav characters, I may start punching.

5. What book made you a reader and why?

I ... don't know. I have been reading since I was a wailing toddler, okay?

6. Incendio! Your bookshelf just caught fire! What is the one book you would save?

THIS QUESTION IS EVIL. I would save my copy of Nothing to Envy. I don't know why, it just pops up at me and it's one of the only nonfiction books I've read.

7. Which dystopian world would you want to live in and why?

Look, no one actually wants to live in a dystopia. However, if you make me ... I'd drop by Westeros. And then maybe hightail it to Yi Ti, i.e. as far as possible from the ice zombies.

8. What is your most Epic Read of all time?

A Song of Ice and Fire. It's epic in scale in terms of worldbuilding, characters, and plot. It's the series that really turned me into a writer. It's the series where I have stuck post-its for every fav scene and A Clash of Kings looks like an accordion now.
Thank you again to Wild Horse for tagging me! My wonderful nominees below now get to answer these eight questions:

It's totally okay if you don't feel up to doing the tag, but if you do, have lots of fun!

Which of these Epic Reads are you also a fan of? Any Epic Reads you think I've missed out? Drop a note in the comments!

  1. I think an Epic Read is Blood Family, by Anne Fine. It is the heartbreaking tale of an abused little boy named Eddie, and the psychological effect his childhood abuse has on him as he progresses through life. Won't spoil it for you, but I must admit that I cried so bad at the end that my mother had to console me!
Do you like writing? I personally LOVE it. What's the point of having fantastic imaginings and ideas if you refuse to write them down?

    1. Hmm, that sounds like an interesting read. And I definitely like writing -- I have this whole page (the little bar called "i write" in the navbar) dedicated to my writing projects, and I have accounts on Figment/Wattpad.

Thanks for reading, Cindy, and great to see you back -- hope your blog's starting out well!

  2. :O You like Sansa too? I like Sansa, but my parents didn't really find her that compelling—and I mean... SHE'S COOL IN HER OWN WAY WE CAN'T ALL BE NED STARK OKAY DAD? I'd probably love to see a Mauraders story too... But who knows where the Lady Rowling will go with her works? And wow, your copy of Clash of Kings looks crazy full—but that's awesome!

    Thanks for tagging me!

    1. YAY FOR SANSA! I thought I wouldn't like her at first, but a, she's the 'quintessential obedient girl' instead of the defiant rebel and that really makes a change for fantasy noble ladies, and b, CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. That is all.

You're welcome -- can't wait to see what you come up with!

  3. OH YAY THANK YOU FOR THE TAG! I don't want to live in any dystopian world though. Gosh. They're all psycho. Gah...mabye something in Australia? Then I could run away and live in the woods and definitely make it five miles. XD

    1. YOU'RE WELCOME! Can't wait to see what epic reads you come up with :D

I know right? Who'd *want* to live in a dystopia? Although to be honest, with the number of venomous snakes, spiders, etc., I'd peg Australia as a real-life dystopia XD

  4. Ooh I totally love your answers! Hahaha I actually don't tag my books but omg that would totally be what my Percy Jackson series would look like if I flagged all my fav scenes.

    1. Thanks! I used to fold the corners when I was young and innocent (hence my copies of HP are not to be envied), but for ASOIAF I just had to find some way to read those fav scenes again and again.

    2. Long live Percy Jackson Series and its Fandom!!

    3. Haha, confession: I've never read PJ. In fact, I once tried to remember this series and blurted out "Peter Jackson" instead, prompting my friend to hit me with a very heavy pencil case. ;P

  5. Thank you for doing the tag! I love that you have stuck post-its in your book- If I can bring myself to, I normally outline parts in pencil, and thats hard to re-find xD

    1. Thank *you* for tagging me! That does sound like it's harder to find, if more eco-friendly!

  6. I love how "which dystopia would you want to live in?" is actually a legitimate, serious question. It's at times like these when I realise just how insane we readers are. ;) Also: I adore your copy of ASOIAF! I'm one of those people who hates marking up books, even if it's just with post-its, but for some odd reason I find it so fascinating to look at how others bookmark their favourite sections. ALLLLL THE POST-IT COLOURS. *makes grabby hands*

I think I'm going to skip out on this tag - you know I'm taking a break from blogging for the next week, so I'd rather get straight back into original content as soon as I can. Thank you so much for the love as always, though! x

    1. Yeah, and of all the it-got-better dystopias I could've picked, I decided to go with WESTEROS. *slams head against keyboard* Thank you! I just kept trying to remember which chapter had this particular scene, and ASOIAF doesn't have those chapter lists with page numbers (what are those called? it's slipped my mind), so I needed to use post-its. :D

Yep, totally understand! Enjoy the first week of the Lunar New Year!

  7. Yaaay for Sansa Stark! She's one of my Top 3 Favorite ASOIAF Characters! Also, ONLY 1 BOOK TO SAVE? How about NO.

    1. YAY INDEED. I think GRRM really did an amazing job with her character development.

Yep, it's very nerve-wracking to choose JUST ONE. I saw someone who cleverly answered 'Kindle' :D
