POST FROM THE DEVIL ORDERS TAKEOUT

#WatchMeWrite [7]: One Last Winner Takes All Scene

#WatchMeWrite is a campaign started by E. R. Warren and Samantha Chaffin, wherein writers record their process, speed it up, add music, and show it to the rest of the world. Here are all past #WatchMeWrite videos!

A twist to this month's #WatchMeWrite — you saw this scene back in November's #WatchMeWrite, and to celebrate the rewrite, I thought I'd showcase how far this ms has come. Hope you enjoy the evolution of this scene!

From last month's comments, a few of you suggested Hans Zimmer music to solve my crisis of no Star Wars music. Interstellar turned out to be great music to write to, so I chose the main theme!

Because even I'm getting tired of this manuscript, I'll be setting it aside for a while, and #WatchMeWrite videos will feature new projects from now on. (Keep an eye out on myWriteClub; I track my goals there.)

But the story's not over yet! Newsletter subscribers will be receiving one final plot twist in their inbox come next week, and help decide this manuscript's ending. Join in and receive monthly letters from me!

How do your scenes evolve? How much of this scene do you recognise?

    1. This is so cool! I can't wait to see more projects (and thanks for reminding me to watch; I'm excited to see all the changes that have been in the story!) and all the other fun #WatchMeWrite things that are to come. Also, how long is WTA now? It seems like a lot!

    2. First of all, hope you enjoyed the trip! And the non-loading video was my issue, so thanks for the heads up. It's fixed now :D (dratted HTML, never seem to get it right)

So you're already signed up for my newsletter, which means I will be sending out info (and opportunities to read!) about the project come July. But before that I will have teasers and probably a #WatchMeWrite on the blog.

WTA is around 79K, but it'll probably end up a touch shorter in its final form, once I've excised all the flabby sentences!

  2. AHH you love writing too? I adore writing! :D I also write my own stories and currently, I'm making a YA dystopian novel! You have no idea how happy it makes me feel just meeting other bloggers who are writers as well! So hello there! :)

It's pretty interesting, how you could write so much! Honestly, sometimes I procrastinate in my writing or open a new tab to browse online. Then I end up neglecting my work. It's an awful habit, but I'm working on it!

Can't wait to hear more about you think up of! And I'm glad i stumbled upon your blog! :D It's nice to meet you!

    1. WRITING SUPPORT CLUB ASSEMBLE.

YA Dystopian is my favourite -- even if it's a "dead genre". WTA is actually a dystopian take on Mulan! #WatchMeWrite is a great way to force myself to focus, because I'm hyper-aware of the screen recording. I know some people work differently and it freaks them out instead, but you may want to give it a try!

Glad to have met you, Jillian!

  3. Awesome video Alyssa! This is a great idea! What new projects? What will happen to Winner takes all meanwhile. And while I don't write novels, I find that by the time I've been editing my essays for a few day it kind of loses it's meaning and it's a lot harder to critically read. (Kind of like how if you repeat a word over and over it loses it's meaning)

    1. I'm glad you liked the slight twist on the #WatchMeWrite. (I need to come up with more interesting ways to record my writing!) My lips are sealed on the new project -- until the 5th, because I'm planning to take part in Paper Fury's Beautiful People.

Yes! That's exactly the feeling! That's why breaks are so important -- and I'm taking a break on WTA too, to wait for beta responses and make an editing action plan. I might get it done in time for Pitch Wars, but we'll see.

  5. Ohhhh to be a writer! Also, if ever there was a time I needed a soundtrack for my life, this is it. I think I should personally hire Hans Zimmer to compose daily for me. Wadya think? A fool-proof plan, no?

    1. Being a writer SEEMS romantic, but really it is not. It is a labour of love, and more labour than love. Hans Zimmer would be fantabulous. Like seriously, I write half my stuff listening to him and John Williams.

    1. Yay, thank you! And yes, sometimes it just feels so oddly foreign but familiar at the same time.

  7. This is an awesome feature, Alyssa! I always seem to go back to some scenes where I write to add things even when I haven't even completed the entire book yet. D: I love watching scenes evolve and

I always seem to get tired of some manuscripts too, and I end up just leaving it unfinished and moving onto a new one. :(

    1. I'm glad you like it! I tried it out a couple times last year and reactions were fairly positive, so I decided to make it a monthly feature. And yes! I get that urge too! I think you'd be a great editor if you finish mss, which is great because finishing the first draft is a matter of closing your eyes and typing until "THE END". Revisions are so much harder.
